a boy and his berries

---

If anyone has any tips (including especially links to toys!) about flying on a plane with an 8-month-old / avoiding epic meltdowns, please leave some comments for me below :)

  1. I ended up taking later flights, because they were cheaper, but it worked well because it was around Leo's bedtime. So he would drink a bottle during takeoff, then fall asleep (he was 6 months). I think snacks, drinks (for takeoff/landing to keep them swallowing for their ears), books, different small toys you can hand them (maybe some new ones?). Also, be relaxed, because he'll probably be able to sense that, too. Take a blanket - sometimes planes are cold but then get really hot. And don't be hard on yourself if he does cry. All those people will LIVE.

  2. This has nothing to do with entertaining him on the plane, but I found this website you might be interested in. babysaway.com you can rent all kinds of baby equipment and it will be delivered to your hotel! The prices seem pretty reasonable to me, just thought I'd pass it along :)

  3. I also found this http://www.parenting.com/gallery/50-ways-entertain-kids-plane?pnid=363333 most are for older kids but a few might be useful to you. I think a koosh ball or those squishy balls might be good for some entertainment. Hope this helps :)

  4. I've been reading your blog for awhile, but I think this is the first time I've commented. I love reading your blog and reading about your life as two working parents. My husband and I both work full time and we have a 2 1/2 year old (our second child is due in July) and a lot of my friends stay home with their children so I really enjoy reading blogs about other families with two working parents and know that we're not alone :) Anyway, one tip for flying - I'm a freak about germs and I was so worried about germs on the plane. I bought those disposable placemats and put one on the tray table so that our son could play with toys or eat snacks off of it without touching the nasty table. Good luck! My husband also went to the dollar store before we flew with our son and bought a whole bunch of new, cheap toys and my son was pretty entertained by those since they were new to him.

    1. Nice to make your acquaintance! Thank you so much for the kind words and the traveling tips. I never thought to go to the dollar store--brilliant! As a fellow germophobe I will have to explore the placemat option.

Do you know what gender baby #2 is? :)

    2. The dollar store is great because you can get new toys to entertain Elden, but if the toys get lost or you want to toss them after being on the plane, it's not a huge deal. Yes, baby #2 is a girl this time :) I'm excited, but also a little nervous - I'm so used to raising a boy so far and nervous about raising a girl, especially as she gets to be a teenager! I suppose we have lots of time until them, but of course I'm already worrying about that!
