five on friday

Since its been a while, I figured I'd do a little catch-up on what we've been up to lately:

I finally found a hobby that I can do!! I made Edith these adorable felt bow headbands on the cheap ($8 for elastics and the flowers, $4 for all the felt and I have tons of both left over!) using this tutorial. I am so happy with the end product!

Chicago! This trip was so fun. We got to eat at all our favorite restaurants, the kids actually slept through both nights, and we also got to see some of our favorite people. Elden adored getting to ride on the bus and train, but not quite as much as he loved the Lincoln Park Zoo.

This is Cindy (referring to her by her first name will never feel normal to me. Ever.) She was my 6th grade teacher. Middle school was hell for me. I had no friends, no people skills and was made fun of quite a bit. This was also the time my depression got extreme thanks to the hormonal changes associated with puberty. It was a very dark time in my life and she was seriously a Godsend. She wrote me an unlimited hall pass so I could eat lunch in her class during her free period. She checked in with me and could tell instantly if I was in a particularly dark place. I would likely have done something extreme to myself had it not been for her friendship and kindness those three years. We make an effort to have dinner once a year to catch up. She was at my wedding. She got to meet both of my babies this month and my heart is so, so full. Cindy is the perfect example of a teacher who is so much more than that.

I cleaned the house extensively on Wednesday since we hosted small group Thursday. Our formal living room is my favorite calm/quiet spot when it's clean and the kids are in bed. It makes me feel like a grown up.

Our friends, Heather and Paul, just welcomed this sweet little baby girl into their family. Elden was a total baby hog and told us we needed another little baby. I'd be lying if I said I didn't start to get a tinge of baby fever but the children quickly sensed it and smashed it with a night of multiple wake-ups.
