halloween recap

Four isn't always the most fun age. Your kid is old enough to know what behaviors are acceptable, yet they still want to push those boundaries to test you. The fact that you know they know better and choose to make these decisions is infuriating.

Last night, however, four just so happened to be my favorite age ever! #plottwist

After we had tacos we started getting the kids all dressed up. Jon's parents and my parents were over as they got ready which just added to their excitement. My mom did Elden's skeleton makeup and when Edith saw big bro getting her face painted she demanded similar treatment. Jon quickly set to work making her a pink flamingo face.
I may be biased, but I'm fairly certain that's the cutest skeleton and flamingo to ever grace our planet.
Elden wanted to do a scary face. Edith immediately hopped on board.
Right at 6, our friend, Sam, and her three kiddos joined us and we set out for trick-or-treat! We got about halfway down our block when I realized we should probably grab the stroller for Edith so in an effort to get things moving in the contraction department I literally ran home to get it.

Spoiler alert: that did nothing but make me winded.

Once Edith was in the stroller we started making our way down our street. It took a good 4-5 houses before all four of the trick-or-treaters in our party were on board with what was happening, but once they were into it, they were into it. Around 7:15 we had looped around a few cul-de-sacs which brought us back to our house. Elden wanted to keep going and since I figured this was probably the last big thing I will get to do with him before the baby comes I took him out all the way until trick-or-treat ended at 8. He did SO well and I was so amazed that he was able to walk so much. He also came out of his shell quite a bit and had no problem saying "trick-or-treat" and "thank you" at each house. We held hands and he told me how he was having so much fun and trick-or-treat was basically the best thing to ever happen to him. I'll really cherish the memories I have from last night and I am so glad the weather was nice (50 and dry) and cooperative.

After Elden and I got home we combined the kids' candy, fed them a snack, and got them showered and in bed. Edith had a meltdown when she realized her flamingo makeup was being washed off but other than that it was a pretty smooth process. Basically as soon as the kids were in bed all the walking hit me and I could seriously barely move last night. I had to virtually crawl along the wall, slightly bent at the waist because I was having horrible lower back pain. Today I can move again and I still have not had any contractions... so basically I have resolved myself that I will indeed be #pregnantforever.
