warm, winter days

Yesterday the high was in the 70s. I have never been so happy to turn off the heat, throw open the windows and spend an hour and a half outside.
A certain little leg-clinger was beyond excited to be outside.

There's just something so life giving about this kind of weather when you've been locked inside for the better part of 3.5 months. Our kids are all outdoor enthusiasts and are happiest and best behaved when they get to play outside. We went for a walk, they played with rocks, we learned about sandstone. This is a time when they are content to do much of nothing, so long as they are doing it outside.
When we came back inside, Edith exclaimed how good our house smelled. She was right--our house smelled like spring. Looking at the 10-day forecast, the highs are all supposed to be above freezing, which gives me so much hope. Ohio is a depressing place in the winter--you are housebound, the cold hurts your face when you do have to leave your house, and it looks dirty and desolate outside. We are looking forward to the hope spring brings.

  1. I can so relate!! Unfortunately it was warmer (high 50s), but super rainy by us. I'm so ready for fresh air and warmer temperatures!! Cabin fever is in full force!!
